The Secrets Behind Memorable Ads: Consumer Evaluations and Honest Feedback

Ads are part of our daily lives, but only a few stick in our minds. What makes some ads so memorable? BurstKimbap conducted a deep analysis to uncover which ads made the strongest impressions on consumers and why. Today, we’ll dive into the findings and reveal the secrets behind these impactful ads based on consumer feedback.

Our Research Method

From June to September 2024, we conducted a study involving a panel of 8 consumers, exposing them to 28 different ad samples. The goal of this research was to understand the emotional and cognitive impacts of these ads and identify which elements made them memorable. We focused on key factors such as ad messaging, visual elements, and emotional reactions. The panel was allowed to provide multiple responses, freely expressing their impressions of the ads they found memorable.

Why Certain Ads Stand Out: The Power of Celebrity Endorsements

Our study revealed that the most memorable ads, according to the panelists, were those that featured celebrities, with 58.7% of participants stating that these ads left the strongest impression. This highlights how ads featuring celebrities capture consumer attention and build trust in the brand. Celebrities don’t just act as familiar faces—they play a vital role in creating an emotional connection with consumers, making the ad more relatable and impactful.

The second most memorable type of ad focused on intangible assets of the company (21.3%). Instead of merely promoting the product itself, these ads emphasized the company’s values, vision, and philosophy, leaving a long-lasting impression on consumers. Ads that highlight a brand’s mission tend to foster deeper emotional connections, as consumers align themselves with the company’s core values.

Additionally, ads that highlighted the functionality of the product or service (11.1%) also resonated well with the panel. When ads clearly showcase the features or benefits of a product, consumers tend to appreciate and remember them more. While price-focused ads (8.9%) were less commonly cited, they still had an impact on price-sensitive consumers, showing that cost remains an important factor for certain audiences.

What Consumers Liked Most: Clear Messaging and Curiosity

One of the key findings from BurstKimbap’s study was that clear messaging plays a crucial role in how well an ad is remembered. The statement "The ad’s message was easy to understand" was the most selected, with 20 responses. This shows that when an ad’s message is straightforward and easy to grasp, it is more likely to stay with consumers. Clarity in advertising is key to making a lasting impact.

The next most popular response was "The ad made me want to learn more about the product/service," chosen 17 times. Ads that spark curiosity and leave consumers wanting more are highly effective. If an ad can engage the viewer to the point where they want to research the product or service further, it has done its job well.

Additionally, "The ad was interesting" received 14 responses, while "This ad stood out from others" garnered 12 responses. This indicates that visually creative or unique ads make a stronger impression on consumers. When an ad presents information in a distinctive and engaging way, it’s more likely to be remembered.

On the other hand, there were very few negative reactions to the ads. This suggests that most panelists had a generally positive view of the ads they were exposed to, which is a great indicator of the ads’ effectiveness.

Tips for Creating Memorable Ads

This study offers important insights into what makes an ad memorable. Ads that feature celebrities still hold significant power in capturing consumer attention, while ads that emphasize a company’s mission and values can create deeper, long-lasting impressions.

It’s also important to note that ads with clear and easy-to-understand messaging are more likely to be remembered. Additionally, ads that spark curiosity and make consumers want to learn more about the product or service are highly effective. Creativity and visual appeal also play a huge role in ensuring an ad stands out among the rest.

Ultimately, the key to creating memorable ads is to focus on clear messaging and establishing an emotional connection with the audience. By combining these elements with creative expression, brands can ensure their ads leave a lasting impression on consumers.
